Hi and thanks for your great comment. I agree and I'll add that I think "one soft infested summer", regardless of what Bruce meant or how we might interpret it, also works beautifully from a musical point of view. I just love how it flows. Cheers!


Interesting post. I always thought the "soft infested summer" was a stroke of brilliance. It is open to interpretation yet evokes conflicting images. Summer is usually something people long for, and infestations are patently not. So I have always imagined an oppressive heat, making life soft, sweaty, sluggish and nearly unbearable and miserable. This is in keeping with his themes of stifling entrapment and escape.
